How to Attend a CFO Seminar in Cebu

Some of us are not fond of attending the seminar as it gets us sleepy or hungry if not bored inside the square room, but I believe that this CFO seminar is imperative to Filipino citizens leaving the Philippine land to start a new life in another country for good. I have heard stories from the previous about their struggles of attending the CFO seminar. Attending the combined Pre-departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) and Peer Counseling Program (PCP) is very important as it will give you insights of the country you will be moving in, helping you equip of the culture and social differences in the host country, different values and beliefs, travel precautions, health and safety issues and a whole lot more.

Once you receive your visa, you must reserve and register online prior attending the CFO seminar. They do not accommodate walk-in clients and they only offer limited slots online for the set date and time so I would suggest you book an appointment at the earliest time possible. CFO staff will only accommodate clients with a confirmed reservation slot with a bar code reference number, presenting the online registration form with them.

I attended my CFO seminar in the first quarter of the year and my schedule was 8:00AM but I arrived quite a bit early just to make sure I won’t be late. You need to be in the CFO office at least an hour earlier or more before your scheduled time. Always bring a pen with you for you’ve got to fill up loads of additional forms in their office apart from the actual seminar. Gather much information as you can because you need to put them on your application (small stuff that we often overlook but is actually required). It’s a whole day seminar so you might want to bring with you a light snack in your bag and a bottle of water just in case you’ll get hungry. I was there since 8:00AM and we finished 5:00 in the afternoon and obviously although I was just sitting there the whole day and didn’t do much, I was tired, sleepy and hungry as well.

CFO’s orientation is conducted in either Manila or Cebu. I attended my CFO pre-departure seminar in Cebu and below is where their office and its location. I booked my appointment using the CFO GCP Cebu Online appointment system and attended the Guidance Counseling Program (GCP). Various topics like rights and obligation of Filipino migrants, travel guidelines, healthcare assistance, lifestyle and safety regulations in the host country, checklist of issues in intermarriages, social security-related concerns, employment system, social and cultural differences, settlement and immigration procedures and etc. were deliberately discussed to us by the facilitator during the orientation.

The last part of the program is the counseling program where the facilitator will conduct a brief interview with you in general. A topic that is related to the purpose of your travel. This is the best part for me because it’s where you can really address an issue to the facilitator and they are there listening to you and give you options. So when the facilitator start asking you questions, just try to be real and give the appropriate information so they can better assist you when necessary.

Once you have completed the program, you will receive a certificate and a CFO sticker will be posted in one of the pages on your passport like this one below.

The requirements for Attendance to Guidance and Counseling Program are the following:

  • Original and photocopy of two (2) valid identification cards with a photograph
  • Duly completed Guidance and Counseling Form
  • Original and photocopy of Marriage Contract or Report of Marriage
  • Payment of Php 400.00 for counseling and registration fee
  • Other supporting documents as required by the counselors (I just brought with me all the documents that I also used when I applied for my visa especially pictures for the both of you and your partner)

The requirements for Registration are the following:

  • Original and photocopy of passport
  • Original and photocopy of visa
  • Original and photocopy of Immigrant Data Summary for US bound emigrants (except for K visa holders)
  • Original and photocopy of Confirmation of Permanent residence for Canada-bound emigrants
  • Original and photocopy of Certificate of Eligibility for Japan-bound emigrants
  • Original CFO Guidance and Counseling Certificate (after satisfactory completion of the GCP)
  • Duly completed emigrant registration form
