Just recently I have experienced having acne particularly on my chin and I have heard about this Proactiv Plus from the word of mouth who uses this product. Everyone wants to have a flawless skin as it adds confidence to us and it’s pretty annoying having this kind of thing as an adult. I used to have a nice skin on my face until I reach this age so I think this perhaps be a hormonal acne. When this happens to most of us, it lures us to a variety of products offered in the market with their promising solution of removing acne. So I went out and scout in the market, stores and even search online for a product that might help me get rid of my acne. I have heard about the Proactiv Plus for ages now but didn’t bother buying it as I was skeptical if this one really works.
So, Let’s read the ingredients:
Benzoyl peroxide is widely known as one of the best anti-acne treatments because it starts killing bacteria on contact in the pores, where acne starts. You’ll find it in steps 1 and 2 of Proactiv+.
Glycolic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) and salicylic acid (anti-acne treatment) are excellent at sloughing off dead skin cells so that pores don’t become clogged. This also helps to minimize the look of pores and give an all-over radiance to the skin. Used in the right sequence and in our proprietary Proactiv+ formulations, these tried and true ingredients can control your acne.
Salicylic Acid An anti-acne medicine and mild beta hydroxy acid, salicylic acid encourages dead skin cells to loosen and shed, helping keep the pores clear of cellular debris. This is especially important in treating acne so that pores are not plugged by dead skin cells, which can trap oil and bacteria if left on the skin’s surface. Without a buildup of dead skin cells, pores can look smaller and skin more radiant. It’s found in Proactiv+ Step 3 Complexion Perfection Hydrator. (0.5%).
Hyaluronic acid is in the Moisturizing Complex of Step 3 Complexion Perfection Hydrator. It’s a naturally occurring humectant agent that can hold several hundred times its weight in water. It’s found in the human body in large amounts in the spaces between skin cells, providing moisture and plumpness. It’s not an “acid” in the traditional sense as there’s nothing harsh about it.
Skin Brightening Complex Our proprietary Skin Brightening Complex contains kojic acid, licorice extract, bearberry and sophora root. Each of these ingredients is a natural skin brightener specially selected to deliver solutions to some of the most common problems of an acne-prone complexion, such as, unwanted pigmentation, redness, blotchiness and dull, ashy-looking skin. This effective Skin Brightening Complex helps skin become more even toned, brighter, and more radiant as well as fades the look of post-acne marks. It’s found in Proactiv+ Step 3.
Watching the Proactiv plus ads and TV commercials with the list of famous celebrities endorsing this product absolutely look so convincing. Also, according to the packaging, it helps clear and prevent spots, pimples, and blemishes and promising visible results in weeks. With just three (3) simple steps, twice a day you could be on your way to clear and radiant skin using this product. If this is true, that would be so wonderful.
Furthermore, it offers an effective blemish control solution that targets blemishes, pimples, spots, and blackheads at the source, fighting breakouts before they happen, and gently exfoliating to leave your skin looking healthy and beautiful. Eventually, I bought one at Boots pharmacy chain here in the UK and give myself a go. By the way, it cost me £49.99 in cash for this set. So will this one worth the hype? Well, let’s see if it really does.
The Three Easy Simple Steps

I have followed the instructions provided on the package since it is just so easy to do and it incorporates into my daily activity. To me, it is a mild product from step 1 to step 3 so nothing to worry about because I don’t peel on this. I think Proactiv Plus seems like a water-based acne treatment product to me. It is not greasy so it easily absorbs into your skin and you don’t need to wait for long for the next step which is to hydrate your skin and yes it really did hydrate my skin. I feel like my face gets smoother after applying all these steps in the first two weeks which I think was good but what about the rest of the weeks? I have been using Proactiv Plus for more than a month now and guess what’s the result?
Well, after using for a month or two, I didn’t see any much difference. Yet, I still give it a go for more weeks. As I kept on using it weeks after weeks, my face skin was getting more irritated and dry. I started having breakouts and red patches not only in my chin as it normally do but now they are on my nose, on my forehead literally in my T-zone areas and they seem not to stop showing on the surface of my face. I believed the product does not suit me. I was not pleased with the outcome and I got afraid that it might get worst, so I decided to stop using it since last week of August. I find out that some of the ingredients are available or can be found in any other acne treatment or beauty products at a lower cost.
Does it worth my money? NO. In my own personal opinion, I believed this is not worth your hard-earned money for a product that’s less likely effective.
Would I recommend this product? NO. However, of course, you may try this product and see it for yourself as this may do for you. After all, we have different types of skin. As for me, I am not impressed with this expensive product which had a very little effect on my face. It seems they spend much on the marketing campaign and put a higher market value in it but with very minimal or no effect particularly on my face.
So I think it would be better for me to look for a brand that focuses more on the core of the product, its effectiveness and its cost rather than getting hooked on a product just because they are endorsed by famous personalities. I just wonder whether these celebrities are really using the product or not.
So based on my experienced, this product did not meet my expectation and I am quite not happy. Probably, Proactive is just not for me. Anyway, not because it does not work for me, it won’t work for you. It might work for you, perhaps. So I think it really depends on. However, we have to consider also that having different skin types, diets and lifestyles may also be one of the factors how our skin respond to certain products. Therefore, products performance may vary from one individual to another. So what may works for you might not work for me or vice-versa. What I can recommend is consider looking for another brand until you find what suits you. I will also do the same. I am also considering paying a visit to a dermatologist so this can be sorted out.
